As linebackers step forward to stop the run, the Glance route slips behind them into the intermediate window. If the read defender remains in coverage, the quarterback hands the football to the running back and lets the offense take advantage of favorable numbers in the box.

Personnel

11 Personnel is the preferred grouping because it combines a strong inside running game with multiple receiving threats capable of stretching the defense vertically.

Responsibilities

• Quarterback: Read the conflict defender and make a decisive give-or-throw decision.
• Running back: Execute the called run every snap.
• Offensive line: Block the run concept on every play.
• Glance receiver: Attack vertically, bend inside, and expect the football immediately.
• Other receivers: Execute complementary routes that remove underneath defenders.

Quarterback Progression

1. Identify the conflict defender.
2. Execute the shotgun mesh.
3. Read the defender’s first movement.
4. Throw the Glance route if the defender attacks the run.
5. Hand the football off if the defender remains in coverage.
