Who are We and Where We Started
As the son of a long time youth football coach our founder spent a lot of time helping draw football plays and organizing playbooks.
Back in the mid to late 1990s when we first starting "making" playbooks the drawing options were very limited.
The Manual Era
With very few "digital" options back then it was a very manual process and involved hand drawing and lots of photocopies, while we got the job done, it was far from ideal, very time consuming and hard to maintain long term.
It was this experience that lead us to trying to find a way to digitize our playbooks using our desktop PC.
Early Desktop PCs
The software options we had were very limited, only a couple of "pro" grade playbook software options were available and they were fairly expensive for what they provided, and limited in features.
We also tried common desktop publishing apps of the time, and using a combination of those we made it work with what we had, but always knew there needed to be a better way.
Eventually we formed CoachYouths in the early 2000s, with our initial release of our Football Playbook Designer (a football playbook maker) coming a few years later.
The initial release in the late 2000s was a desktop only version that required a download and install process and also a manual update process.
While the software itself was a success and a drastic improvement over the other tools of the time we still wanted to be better.
One of the Early Adopters of the Web
In 2014 we released our second version of our Football Playbook Designer and it was 100% web-based, with nothing to install or update.
Since 2014 we have added many new features that coaches request and made updates to support any modern device with a modern web browser, including smartphones.

Once we made the move to be 100% web-based and utilize modern cloud concepts we were able to offer features that save coaches even more time than a desktop or installed app could.
Coaches can still download and print copies of their playbooks, play sheets and even player wristbands, they can also simply SHARE their playbooks online.
This allows players and parents to access the playbooks on their own device and download and print as needed, or simply review their playbook online, again with nothing to install.

While drawing your plays is one part of your playbook, player's understanding and knowledge of a play's execution is even more vital.
Our Tutorial mode feature converts any play you draw into an animated play execution tool that allows your players to view the play movement on their own device.
You can also provide written assignment text for each player to further help them understand their roles.
