Dive Run Concept
Dive is a quick-hitting interior running concept designed to attack the defense before linebackers and safeties can react. Often associated with the fullback in traditional offenses, Dive emphasizes immediate vertical movement, simple reads, and physical execution. It remains one of the most dependable short-yardage concepts in youth football.
Why Dive Works
The ball reaches the line of scrimmage almost immediately after the snap, reducing the defense’s time to penetrate or scrape into position. By eliminating unnecessary backfield movement, Dive allows the offense to win with leverage, pad level, and decisive north-south running.
Best Formations
The I Formation is the classic alignment because the fullback aligns directly behind the quarterback and can hit the interior gap immediately. Dive also adapts well to Split Back and Singleback variations.
Personnel
21 Personnel is the traditional grouping, although 11 Personnel can execute Dive using an H-back or running back in the lead role.
